Today, this iconic data point becomes the inspiration behind the -63 modular carpet collection, which celebrates both the raw beauty of the Canadian landscape and the timeless elegance of Scandinavian design. « It is a well-worn cliché that the iconic imagery of Canada is all wintry. Snowshoes and igloos, toques and down parkas, the boreal forests, icebergs, and frozen oceans at or near the Arctic Circle » - True Nordic.
-63 was born from a fundamental question: How can we infuse a sense of comfort and softness into an environment shaped by winter? Our answer is simple: by fully embracing our identity. The -63 collection invites us to rethink our relationship with northern living—not as a constraint to overcome, but as a richness to explore.
As we set out to design one of our very first modular carpet collection in our Venture Contract division, we knew we wanted to make a bold statement. Our goal was clear: to root the creative process in a strong, distinctly Canadian identity. That’s how the -63 collection came to life, driven by a desire to showcase a design philosophy deeply grounded in our culture and our climate.

Scandinavian influence on Canadian design is far from new. As highlighted in the acclaimed exhibition True Nordic: How Scandinavia Influenced Design in Canada, presented at the Vancouver Art Gallery, this connection dates back to the 1930s. It deepened with the arrival of Scandinavian immigrants during the Great Depression and after World War II. These new Canadians brought with them a design philosophy rooted in nature and utility. They favored raw materials, clean lines, and aesthetics tailored to northern realities. This deeply human approach to design naturally resonated in the Canadian context, where sensitivity to nature, climate, and everyday needs has always shaped the way we design our spaces.
The -63 collection translates these core principles into a sophisticated, modular textile language. It features soft tones inspired by winter landscapes, delicately contrasted patterns, and a visual balance that promotes calm and clarity. In commercial design projects, this approach proves especially relevant—it helps create an atmosphere that is inspiring, grounded, and thoughtfully structured. Whether in an office, a reception area, a corridor, or an institutional space, -63 provides a cohesive backdrop that naturally resonates with its surroundings.
